4 Hot Tips to Stay Focused in Your Business and Get Stuff Done!
There are a handful of skills and qualities that are essential for anyone looking to succeed in their business network. Patience, resilience, the ability to convert a sale, knowing when to and when not to speak can have a major impact on anyone’s business–but it doesn’t end there. If there’s one thing that truly separates the leaders from the followers, it’s the ability to maintain a solid focus on your work, to get in the zone and get stuff done! Yet, the fast pace of modern society has made focusing on the day’s dealings more difficult than ever.
Learning how to focus on the task at hand may be tough, but it’ll make all the difference in the world in terms of your productivity and the quality of your work. Here are some tips for success from the top business coach in San Diego.
Take 90 Minutes Off From Communication
Staying on top of communication with clients and employees is a key part of everyone’s daily business routine, but all this interconnecting means communication gets lost in the process. After all, how are you supposed to get anything done if you have to answer to the chime of a new email, phone call or text message every few minutes? You can lose your mind from this from this info overkill!
Try to schedule at least 90 minutes of your day to take off from communication unless there is an emergency. Close your email account and social media profiles, put your phone on silent and truly focus on the task you have in front of you. It can be a tough switch to make, but your ability to get things done will dramatically improve. Schedule before hand what projects you are going to work on so that you can be in prime focus mode
Stay off of “Time-Wasting” Websites
The amount of information available online is utterly staggering and has accelerated the rate of our abilities to learn in a variety of ways. This being said, the Internet is loaded with “time-wasting” sites, some of which can really get in the way of one’s day. Scrolling through your Facebook feed, for example, is enough to take a solid chunk of time out of your workday. One of the signs of a good leader is the ability to stay focused and avoid these kinds of distractions.
The real puzzle here is that many business professionals need to use social media services for marketing purposes. Staying away from social media can be next to impossible–but there are “time-waster blockers” out there in the form of applications and plug-ins that can help to prevent you from accessing certain sites while you’re working. It may be better to build up some willpower on your own, but these can be helpful in a pinch.
Choose 1-2 Projects to work on, and that’s it!
I used to be a mult-tasking maniac, but what I found over time was that I was making mistakes and really not getting my bigger, high-priority projects completed. Or I would get distracted, bounce from task to task and often spin in circles. Can you relate?
Now I set my deadlines on what I need to complete and when. Then I make sure and set my 90 minute focus time aside so that I am sure to to get that project done. In one week, I may be working with clients, doing speaking engagements or meetings with my team, but my focus time will only be to work on 1-2 projects. If you study highly successful people like Richard Branson, this is exactly what they do.
Consider Your Business as a Whole
A lot of people think they’ve really hit the nail on the head once they learn how to maintain focus on an entire day’s worth of work, and this is certainly worth striving for. However, I recommend getting crystal clear on your Big Picture Vision, and focus on your long-term goal. How can you get where you are going, if you don’t have a destination in mind? Then if someone asks you to do something or an opportunity arises, ask yourself, “Will this get me to my Big Picture Vision?” If the answer is no, then say, “No!” You see, to make room for more, “Yes”, in your life, you need to set boundaries and say, “No” more often. So the next time you find your mind wandering, keep in mind how much more you can get done in a day’s time with the right amount of focus. I know you can do it!
