Hiring and Business Development Tactics for 2014

I talk all the time about the importance of good assessment tools and tactics–they are vital to your success! In order for you to get the most out of your business development, you must understand that people are the most important assets of a business. When you hire the right people (by carefully selecting candidates who have discovered their passions and those passions align with your business), you will be able to gain more success.

Here are a few hiring and business development tactics for 2014:

Hiring Tactics to Adopt

#1: Consider Video: The trend of video interviewing has undergone considerable growth in 2012 and 2013. It’s becoming more and more popular with companies as well as applicants for the simple reason that it’s effective. Everything is conducted virtually. It’s beneficial for both employers and job candidates because it alleviates expenses and makes things easier and more accommodating.

I use video all the time, for webinars and to livestream my events all over the world!

#2: Focus More on Mobile Recruiting: Your website needs to be easily accessible and have a user-friendly interface for those mobile applicants. Mobile use has risen every year of this decade, I wouldn’t twiddle my thumbs on this one, it’s crucial for both hiring and development!

Business Development Tactics to Use

#1: Focus on Specific Metrics: 2014 will be highly competitive for many businesses. The key to outshining the competition is to focus on specific metrics, things like sales revenue, customer acquisition costs, even customer loyalty rates. The bottom line is profits, and focusing on increasing them – even from razor thin to just “thin” – is a key for growing a business.

#2: Establish Processes: As your business grows and begins to expand, the organization can sometimes get lost in the shuffle. This is why it’s important to build or establish processes in the early stages of your development that is consistent with the values and intentions of your business.

#3: Continue improving your social media presence. This one is hard because these days there are so many social networks, it’s really overwhelming. Even e-commerce sites like Etsy, (where I sell my jewelry line) have social components to them these days. Unfortunately, giving up is not an option–flourishing on social media will help you flourish in your business and build the kind of referrals and contacts you need to expand.

So set aside a day (or two) and revisit your profiles. Do they still represent your goals and brand image? If not, revise. Are you staying active enough? It can take up to 15-20 tweets a day to build consistent engagement. Are you committing to those kinds of numbers? Maybe try Hootsuite to help you schedule a week’s worth of posts at a time. Then join networks you may have neglected, like Pinterest or Tumblr. Tumblr is HUGE right now with high levels of engagement!
